FIELD TRIP - CLASS IX

Kavi Bharathi Vidyalaya organized a field trip to class 9 students to Pachaiyappan Silk Factory, Kancheepuram, on 24th August 2023. Around 81 students were accompanied by 5 teachers. As we were in transit to the silk factory, we alighted at the Kancheepuram Temple. Teachers and students partook in rituals, pujas and experienced the serenity that pervaded in the sacred space. Then we forge ahead to Government Anna Silk Exchange Ministry of Textile, Kancheepuram. A rousing reception was given to us by the administrant and the staff of Anna Silk exchange Ministry of Textile. The administrant flashed some videos on the intricate process of silk manufacturing from the cultivation of silkworms to the creation of exquisite silk textiles. The other staff were also enduringly explaining the process of silk reeling, spinning, twisting, sizing and quality control measures. On acquiring knowledge of the thread manufacturing process we headed to Pachaiyappan Silk Factory. There were many weaving units. The students were divided into 5 groups accompanied by a teacher and visited the weaving sections. Students were marveled at the precision and artistry displayed by the weavers on weaving the silk thread into intricate patterns on looms. We were all struck in amazement to see a weaver weaving Rs. 5,00,000 worth saree with a golden thread. The trip gave an opportunity to engage in hands-on activities related to silk production. This interactive approach allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the silks and techniques involved in each stage of the process. Students were encouraged to ask questions and interact with the factory workers, further enriching their experience. This field trip delved students into the historical and cultural heritage of silk.
