NATIONAL HANDLOOM DAY

To honour the artistry, heritage of our nation, Kavi Bharathi Vidyalaya, observed National Handloom Day on 7^th August, 2023. Dr. Venkataraman, a well renowned person in the textile industry graced the occasion.He briefed the students about hand weaving. He adverted to a mat weaving technique which is the base form of handloom. He enlightened the students by narrating a story about a weaver bird and explained about ex vertical and horizontal handloom techniques.He cited that Kaladipet and Chindhadaripet were known as Kalasapet and Chinnatharipet during British rule. He also mentioned the significance of these two places. Kaladipet and Chindhadaripet were once the home for weavers. The popular ‘pit loom’ weaving was once famous in these two places. Children enjoyed the orientation program.
