Extra Co Curricular Activities

Extra co-curricular activities are essential for the all round development of the students and is offered as an optional choice. Kavi Bharathi Vidyalaya promotes an exciting assortment of co-curricular activities including visual arts, performing arts, intellectual games, fitness and sports. The programme takes place after school hours and provides our students with the extended opportunity of exploring their many individual skills and aptitudes. ECCA helps the students to develop their extra-curricular skills. The students are encouraged to participate in various competitions outside the school, at various levels. At the end of the year, various competitions are held for the students who opted for the Extra co-curricular activities.


Singing has physical benefits because it is an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation in the blood stream and exercises major muscle groups in the upper body, even while present seated. Singing has psychological benefits because of its normally positive effect in reducing stress levels through the action of the endocrine system which is linked to our sense of emotional well-being.

Learning to play the keyboard is hard work and takes dedication. Not only does each song mastered increase a child’s self-esteem, but showcasing their newly learned talents at recitals can boost their self esteem as much as winning a game in a sports competition.

Chess is often known as a game for the intellectually gifted and the best sport to exercise the most important organ in our body: the brain. Playing chess results in better brain function, improved memory and cognitive abilities, strategic thinking and attention improvement

Rubik’s Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle in the form of a plastic cube covered with multicoloured squares, which the player attempts to twist and turn so that all the squares on each face are of the same colour. It tests your spatial and problem-solving abilities and is an excellent way to keep the mind active. It teaches you the importance of every single move you make. It teaches you to persevere and helps you notice patterns and eliminate

Cuboro is a didactic toy of Swiss origin, designed with wooden marble tracking system made of cubed elements. It induces creative thinking. Cuboro elements function on the surface as well as in tunnel system. Countless combinations are possible – Starting from simple two-dimensional ones up to highly complex three-dimensional ones.

Kapla is a wooden block construction toy for children and adults. Each block is an identically sized and shaped piece of pine, with dimensions in the ratio of 1:3:15; i.e., 1 unit high, 3 units wide and 15 units long. No need for glue and not a single nail, screw or snap. Kapla planks are not interlocking. Each Kapla plank is simply placed one on top of the other and thus held in place by gravity and balance alone. This activity enhances confidence, curiosity and determination.

Playing board games have been known to help children with social interaction, taking turns and learning to follow rules and to win and lose gracefully. It helps children to think strategically and plan ahead, and to attach abstract thoughts to concrete objects. This in turn translates into better performance on academic tasks that require focus and self-control.


Handball is a fast paced game which helps to build up muscle tone and strength. All of the jumping, turning and slamming means most muscles are getting a vigorous workout. Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and one of the most widely viewed. It is a team sport that involves two teams of five active players each trying to score points against one another by throwing a ball through a 300 cm (10 feet) high hoop (the ‘basket’) under organised rules. Basketball is a fast moving game that involves a lot of variety, including shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defence and much more. Hence it aids to burn calories (an hour of basketball can burn 630–750 calories), build endurance, improve balance and coordination, develop concentration and self-discipline and build up muscle.

Kabbadi will help them increase their stamina by constantly running after an opponent thereby increasing the player’s strength. Kabaddi also requires its players to hold their breath and move with speed and accuracy. This increases their endurance level and breathing strength.

Aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, and cardio-vascular fitness). It is performed to music and practiced in a group setting led by an instructor.

Learning aerobics helps in building a strong immune system among children. The body gains the ability to fight disease. Practising aerobics improves the ability of kids to perform other sports and tasks. Being actively involved in aerobics helps children get less prone to cold and allergies.

Gymnastics is one of the most comprehensive lifestyle exercise programs available to children, incorporating strength, flexibility, speed, balance, coordination, power, and discipline. Skills learned in gymnastics can benefit a child’s overall development. Gymnastics helps children build a range of motor and coordination skills, and assists in developing a good sense of body awareness.

Karate is a Japanese martial art whose physical aspects seek the development of defensive and counterattacking body movements. The themes of traditional karate training are fighting and self-defense, though its mental and moral aspects target the overall improvement of the individual. This is facilitated by the discipline and persistent effort required in training. It consists of dynamic offensive and defensive techniques using all parts of the body to their maximum advantage.

Dance aids the development of kinesthetic intelligence and creates opportunities for self-expression and communication within the constraints of the medium of the body. Dance education helps students develop physical fitness, appreciation of the body, concern for sound health practices, and effective stress management approaches. Dances like Classical and Folk are taught.

Zumba is an exercise fitness program which involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. It tones the entire body and boosts your heart health.

Photography is the science, art and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation. Photography for children can develop their learning across the curriculum and enable them to build an understanding of themselves, others and the world around them. Learning photography boosts children’s self esteem, develops their planning and presentation skills and gives children the opportunity to communicate their ideas, thoughts and feelings. Still Photography and videography are the two options offered.

Robotics is a truly interdisciplinary programme, enabling students to not just learn, but experiment creatively with Science, Technology, Engineering, Math(STEM), Computer Science, Electronics & Mechanical Engineering in solving real life challenges.

Crafts are a great pastime and educational tool for kids. It can extend a child’s fine motor skill , develop concepts like colour or numbers and see scientific processes like gluing and paint drying in action. Craft allows kids to explore ideas or concepts and then express it by making something to keep, entertain others with or simply look at for visual pleasure. A vast range of crafts like Paper cup puppets, Mosaic Art, Button Coaster, Mayur Painting, Pebbles Art, and Glass Painting are taught for the primary school students. Middle school students are taught Pot painting, T-shirt Designing using stencils, Madhubani Painting, Mirror painting (m-seal work), Balloon Sculpting, and Sospeso Transparente art.

Drawing is one of the major forms of expression within the visual arts. It is often exploratory, with considerable emphasis on observation, problem-solving and composition. Students are taught Step Drawing, Observation Drawing, Imaginary Drawing, Shading, Crayons and oil pastel shading technique, etc.
